Here are a few more things from Steve’s bag of tricks

I hope these will be useful for you as it was for me so just in case you miss something.

  • Edit Normals modifier to check the model in terms of smoothing.
  • The model may have hard surfaces on it and this can be fixed. Go to the properties on the to tab and choose the Smooth option to smooth out the model. You can also smooth selected areas and control the level of smoothness through SmGroups in this option you can always use the auto smooth option which will usually do around 90%  of the job for you.
  • Just a reminder don’t forget to check out alpha channels these can potentially save you some poly counts of your creature or anything that you make.
